What were the 3 reason that John Adams gave for him to refuse to sign the declaration of independence?
I can’t find it, please help.
John Adams did sign it. He was on the committee to write the thing in the first place and as such was one of the first to sign it.
However, he declined to draft the declaration himself, because he believed Jefferson to be better qualified. He wrote in 1822 that he declined in favor of Jefferson because (1) Jefferson was a Virginian; (2) Adams was obnoxious and unpopular, while Jefferson was well-liked; and (3) Jefferson wrote ten times better than Adams did.
