It was in the year 1996 that what we know as Linkin Park today had been formed in Southern California when three friends from high school, Mike Shinoda the vocalist, Brad Delson the guitarist and Rob Bourdon the drummer, decided that they would form a band. After graduation the three friends recruited more members for their line up- Mark Wakefield, Joe Hahn and Dave Farrell. The band was initially called SuperXero and then Xero. They began recording various demos for the band but initially failed to get much interest from studios for their songs.

The Final Band Name and Lineup

Because of the lack of success of Xero, Wakefield departed and it was then that Chester Bennington arrived as the frontman of the band in the year 1999. The name of the band was then changed to Hybrid Theory, as their songs had a hybrid sound combining rap and rock. However, after a few legal issues with another group with a similar name, the name Lincoln Park had been chosen after a Santa Monica neighbourhood park in California. However, once the band came to know that someone else already owned the same domain name online, they changed their name to Linkin Park.

Rise to Superstar Status

The first album of Linkin Park had been released in the year 2000, Hybrid Theory in honor of the band name that they had earlier rejected. The first album as an instant success and became one of the largest debuts of all times. More than 10 million copies of the album had been sold in the US with several number one hit singles like “Crawling” and “In the End”. Linkin Park tickets began to be sold all over the US for the tours that they went on. The band also became the most successful band in the rap rock movement in the industry. It was in the year 2002 that the band introduced Projekt Revolution which was an annual tour bringing together various bands of rock and hip hop for a concert series for which Linkin Park tickets for Projekt Revolution were sold in hugenumbers. Since then, Projekt Revolution has included diverse acts ranging from Chris Cornell, Snoop Dogg, Korn and Cypress Hill.

Other Albums

The next album to be released by Linkin Park had been Meteora which was a continuation of Hybrid Theory’s strategy of rock and rap. Collision Course was the next album where the band embraced hip hop whole heartedly. Linkin Park slowly moved away from rap to embrace a more introspective, atmospheric sound. Minutes to Midnight was released in 2007 and although it was less successful commercially compared to the other albums, it did sell 2 million records in the US and had four singles on the Billboard’s Rock Chart. “Shadow of the Day” had also won the Best Rock Video at the MTV VMA’s and had platinum sales. The latest tours that the band has gone on have been jam packed as the fans have been lining up for Linkin Park tickets.

A Thousand Suns

While in Hybrid Theory the band had harnessed an adolescent rage which had been much loved by their fans then, in Thousand Suns the band has music that is a little more refined. A Thousand Suns was released in September, 2010. Known to be a concept album, the album was meant to be enjoyed in a complete experience of 48 minutes. The Catalyst is the lead single of the album and it made history by becoming the first song to debut at the Billboard Rock Chart. A Thousand Suns brings music that is refined and has better sonic amalgam of rock and hip hop. Linkin Park’s main feature is the combination of the melodic vocals of Chester Bennington combined with the assault and passion of Mike Shinoda which mirror the emotions of people within their songs in the perfect way. Their lyrics are known to be deep and meaningful. Linkin Park tickets are available for concert series starting from January 2oth, 2011 to 26th February, 2011 across various states in the US.

Welcome to Discovery Park

Welcome to Discovery Park

Brad further demonstrate a propensity for musical comfort food, ’70s rock style, on their warm-sounding, soul-infused third album. Welcome to Discovery Park is a funny title for this recording, since there’s actually little to uncover here. If you’ve listened to the radio since 1970, you can anticipate chord progressions and guitar solos. But the classic-rock textbook sounds just fine in Brad’s h…

Troy: Director’s Cut (Special Edition) [Blu-ray]

No doubt about it, the 196-minute unrated director’s cut of Troy represents a significant improvement over the film’s original 162-minute theatrical release–and not just because it has more sex and violence. As director Wolfgang Petersen notes in his new “Troy Revisited” video introduction to this 2-disc special edition, he didn’t have the time or directorial discretion (prior to Troy’s release i…
