Choosing Between The Road To The Olympics And The Road To Medicine

A bright, hopeful lass arrived in this small town back in 1984 with big dreams to become a champion runner and Olympic medalist. When she competed in the Olympics of 1988 held in Seoul Korea, she only got 6th place prize in the 3,000 meter run. She rejoiced when last December, she already finished from the local school. But then this young Delaware native decided to stay right where she is for now. On her regular workouts, she courses the environs of the campus. This stunning runner at 5 foot 6 and 110 pounds flies towards her own finish line and it seems like her feet don’t even touch the ground she flies on. She becomes uncomfortable with the prospect of fame especially when people ask for her autograph. She is such an unassuming lady shares that she is just a normal person that doesn’t really deserve any form of special treatment.

While she is a normal person, she is definitely not an average girl. In her town, she is the first female Olympian. She has impressively obtained four US collegiate titles and more than that, she is a proud member of seven world record relay teams. Thanks to her, their school was able to bag 8 individual NCAA championship titles as well as 14 championship title wins in the Big East competition. She has also reaped tons of awards in major areas.

Now that she has already finished her collegiate competition life, she, along with their school’s track mentor is carefully setting up her career in running. Mental adjustments have to be made to suit this big change. It’s hard for people to understand unless they’ve been through it. There is so much pressure driving her to become a great runner but most of this comes from her own self. She is fearful toward sustaining any injuries while she is still bound by the three year contract with the popular shoe firm. With more eyes on her now expecting a lot from her, she has become nervous than how she was during her collegiate sports days. Read this site if you want employment medical information.

Without her, people wonder how the local women’s track team can go on. She asserts that they’ll be fine for they are a wonderful team. All around her are pressures, responsibilities and notoriety and these make her value her privacy. Her family, from her parents and siblings had to adjust to being known as her parents, brother and sister. Since her parents were laid back, they would be very supportive but never pushy.

A perk of stardom is the people she gets to hang out with. Her friends are no other than the greatest and the brightest athletes that we all could only watch on television. Since she has true affection and concern with these great people that share a common link with her, she can name drop but she does so without any pretentions. A concrete example would be her sharing that she had last seen this guy she was with during a tour way back during the Olympic days after they had returned this past June from the tour leg in Hawaii. She recalls that they had so much fun during those three days where they also talked about the old times.

Revealing that she has more time than she wants to have, she adds that she has not run out of things to accomplish. Beyond her daily practices, she also finds herself busy as a public icon, getting involved in various track meets, banquets, photo sessions, features and other similar activities. She will also share her time and talent at the local school as a volunteer assistant track coach.

Being a volunteer in an area hospital will also enable her to keep up with the medical career she has put on hold. Certainly, this will help this former premed and psychology major determine if she should still get into a medical career when she is done with her professional running career. When she was questioned on how she sees herself in the future, she shares that while she aims to have her own happy family that will have to wait until her career as a runner is already established. But for now, she shares that she wants to reach her goals and wants.
