Should the Bruins have upped the ante for Ilya Kovalchuk?
Seems to me that they could have used him more than NJ. Savard needs someone to pass the puck to! Also….the team has been built to win now with some hefty contracts to players getting up there in age…….Savard, Chara, Thomas and some big money to some underachievers like Lucic and Wideman.
Add to that that they have two 1st round picks this year and next……….with them owning Toronto’s picks…….which are high value, big difference between 1st overall and 20 something overall.
Seems to me that Wideman, Wheeler, Marchand and a 1st rounder would have been better and got it done…………………………
So….should Boston have been more agressive?
I dont know that New Jersey didnt need him. They have scored 27 goals in their last 15 games and 9 of those goals came in their 2 games against Toronto (that makes it 18 goals in their last 13 if we take out the Leafs debacles)…scoring has been a major struggle for the Devils too.
Should Boston have gone after him…if they want to make the playoffs they need to do something. Savard needs quality wings to excel and right now he doesnt have that luxury. And they havent exactly been lighting the lamp themselves. My guess is the Thrashers might have asked for Torontos 1st rounder and refused any other deal from Boston if Boston really ever got serious. I have to believe the Bruins will make some sort of deal and Wideman and Lucic along with their own 1st rounder have been mentioned in possible deals. They need a scorer but right now it seems there are far more buyers than potential sellers and those 2 days after the Olympic freeze ought to be pretty exciting (teams will have to make up their minds in a hurry to sell or buy and get deals done).
