I sent a card out to my boyfriend in Florida, but it returned to me. Why?

I sent an “I love you” card to my boyfriend in Florida. I live in Virginia. I put the right address and I know this because I’ve sent him packages using the same one and it has successfully made it there. But I tried to send a card with one stamp and in my mailbox. Why did it return to me? Should I go to the post office and send it? Will it make a difference?

It will say on the outside of the envelope what the reason for the return is. If there are no markings and the stamp is not canceled, it is possible that there was no mail delivery to your mailbox so the card was never taken in the first place.

One other thing. Packages and letters are processed and, sometimes, delivered differently. If your boyfriend has an apartment number, be sure that you are using it on the letters. High speed sorting equipment sorts letters down to the sequence that a carrier walks the route. Without an apartment number, there is no way to sequence that letter. Packages are still sorted to carriers manually and the carrier can see the individual package and get it delivered as long as he knows your boyfriends name and location.
