Why are the Seattle Mariners falling apart so bad now? Losing 8 games in a row, and are now 2 games behind?

the Yankees for the Wild Card. What idiots, these guys were in total control, 20 games above .500, now they are 12 games above and just seem to be in a downward spiral and who do they have on the mound today? you guessed it, Jeff Weaver, oh my god, I can picture it now, the M’s down 7-1 in the 3rd Inning. This guy blows. so, it looks like 9 M’s losses in a row. What is wrong with this team? I have been a big M’s fan for 15 years, but I can’t figure them out this year. Neither Sexson of Beltre has paid off, but for awhile, they found a way to win, but now it seems like their gas tanks are empty?

Right now, the M’s are in a slump. The pitching staff is tired and frustrated; they throw waaaay too many pitches. When they get a good start, they get no run support; or the defense lets them down (last week, Beltre made two errors in one inning that effectively cost five runs). Offensively, they have gotten away from the game that has gotten them as far as they are. They aren’t manufacturing runs, and again through frustration; aren’t hitting the ball well. Beltre, especially late in the season, will try to swing for the fence if his team is down in a game (he’s done that since he was a Dodger) and therefore spends most of his time walking back to the dugout. Sexson is doing the same thing – reaching for the seats – without success. Ichiro is still hitting the ball, but he can only steal so many. If no one behind him puts the ball in play – he stands on canvas until the end of the inning. The Mariners are a talented club, they just need to enjoy the game and quit trying so hard.
