2010 Notre Dame: 50-1 in Odds to Win BCS

If there is one team that could leapfrog the football betting predictions and climb to the top of the polls quickly, it very well could be the 2010 Notre Dame Fighting Irish. New coach Brian Kelly will bring an aggressive offense and have a team that was said to have recruited well with ex coach Charlie Weiss, who was simply weak at developing said talent. Kelly had 3 consecutive 10+ win seasons in college football odds at Cincinnati, a school with a losing tradition, and had the Bearcats in the national title hunt with a 12-0 mark as Big East champions last year before skipping out on the bowl game that was lost to Florida in a blowout. With all that being said, online sportsbooks have opened with Notre Dame as 50-1 longshots in college football predictions to win the BCS.

The 2010 Notre Dame football squad will return 5 starters on offense and 9 on defense and is coming off a 6-6 season in which they went 4-8 against the spread in college football odds. Sophomore Dayne Crist is leading the competition for quarterback. Kelly is known for his outstanding ability to develop quarterbacks and passing games and Crist has plenty of ability to work with. Kelly has had explosive offenses with a wide variety of QB’s in his career. Junior receiver Michael Floyd returns and will be a favored target as he averaged 18 yards per catch with 9 touchdowns last year.

The defense returns 9 starters and should improve upon their 26 points per game allowed in 2009. The big factor that favors Notre Dame besides a roster that is near universally acclaimed as highly talented is the schedule. There is not a game on the schedule that the Irish cannot win when it comes to college football predictions. They open at home against Purdue and Michigan and then travel to Michigan State. Notre Dame football host Stanford, go to Boston College, host Pitt and Western Michigan, play Navy at Giants Stadium, host Tulsa, host Utah, play Army at Yankee Stadium and finish at USC. It’s a schedule that could make for a 30-1 winning ticket for the BCS title if Kelly develops the team quickly.
