Is it wrong to ask for a rain check after the date is confirmed?

I’ve talked to a gentleman on one of the dating sides. He wanted us to meet, gave me 2 choices of dates and a day before our meeting asked for a rain check because, as he said, having gotten very excited at the thought of our meeting and in the stress of being on constant call (his brother and nephew were at his place all Labor Day week) he forgot that the approaching weekend was the Notre Dame football game (he had thought it was a weekend later) and his daughter with her husband would be arriving on Friday (though, I picked up Thursday) and that had become a mini-tradition the past few years and blah-blah-blah. Is he sincere or it’s just a phony-baloney?

We can’t read his mind. Unless you have some valid reason for thinking him to be lying, why not give him another chance? He didn’t stand you up, he let you know he needed to reschedule.

Sometimes life gets overwhelming for all of us, we forget plans or events and all of the sudden we’re double booked. No big deal. If you are interested in him, then be glad he did cancel at least 24 hrs in advance, and see what the future brings. If he doesn’t attempt to set another date, then you can probably assume he was a “phoney baloney”.
