how popular was the devil wears prada before signed?

anyone who knew them, how old were they and how popular were they? I find it interesting they got signed so quick and really wanted to know a more detailed background of them before they signed.

They were probably mostly hometown & surrounding areas popular and branched out when they made their myspace, facebook, etc. They actually got signed pretty easily. They probably had a decent fanbase beforehand, but now most of their fanbase is kind of annoying. I enjoy their music, but seperate myself from that fanbase.
