Will an ELS disqualify me for enlisting in the Army reserves?
Hello, I am desperatly trying to change from the Army national guard to the Army reserves.
I’ve only been signed up for the national guard for less than a week (no boot, no drills) I am trying to transfer to the Army reserve because now i honestly know it is where I can serve the military and my country best, however they may not let me transfer.
If I write letters and get discharged from the guard, will that affect my ability to enlist again? I know there are RE codes, if I get an RE-3 under ELS (entry level separation) will that cause me to be unable to enlist?
will it keep me from being able to get a SECRET level security clearance for a Civil Affairs job?

okay…. i’m active duty enlisted in the army so let me try to help you….. talk to your recruiter (even though people say they lie they can be really helpful) you are not committed to anything until you swear in right before you get on the bus to go to BCT. you can back out until then and make adjustments until then. i remember i had to change a lot of stuff on my enlistment because they signed me up for the wrong MOS, and when i went in to the liason office i had every chance to change everything from backing out completely to changing my enlistment years….. so just keep working at it! also i still retained my top secret clearance through the whole process! good luck to you and let me know if i can get you anymore answers!
