How many Major League Baseball relief pitchers reached 300 saves before Dennis Eckersley saved his 300th game?
Although finding the list of 300-save pitchers is easy, I have been unable to find the order in which those pitchers reached 300 saves. According to an image on this page: the http://cgi.ebay.com/Goose-Gossage-300-Saves-Signed-Gateway-Cachet_W0QQitemZ180266874337QQihZ008QQcategoryZ53QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem , Rollie Fingers was the first and Goose Gossage the second in 1988. But I would like to know the order of the rest of the pitchers, especially Dennis Eckersley. Thanks for your time and help.
Five:
Fingers, 21-Aug-1982
Gossage, 06-Aug-1988
Sutter, 09-Sept-1988
Reardon, 20-May-1991
Smith, 25-Aug-1991
Eck was #6, on 24-May-1995.
August sure is popular, huh? Henke, Montgomery, Hoffman, and Nen also notched their 300th saves in August.
