Bundy Gets Restraining Order Against Sharpe
Former NFL All-Pro tight end Sharpe has added an additional “former” to his list of credentials: former co-host of the Sunday Columbia Broadcasting System Sports program “NFL Today”. Bundy, a woman media sources insinuate is Shannon Sharpe’s girlfriend, was granted a temporary protective order in Fulton County Superior County of Atlanta to protect her towards when reports indicate is “family violence” from Sharpe. No crime has been filed against Sharpe at the present time. Sharpe has stepped away from television work in order to deal with the accusation.
Bundy says Sharpe perpetrated sexual attack
Since 1994, Shannon Sharpe – twin brother of previous NFL star Sterling – has faced 10 separate court cases involving previous sex partners. In this instance, Bundy claims Sharpe forced her to have sex with him by threatening her life. Neither Shannon Sharpe nor CBS have commented around the matter, besides Sharpe’s statement that he will step from “NFL Today” until “the matter is resolved”. Other legal matters on Sharpe’s plate include child support trouble with Melinda Wilson. That’s not so violent – allegedly – as his 2004 misdemeanor battery charge towards Erika Evans. Mediation was used in lieu of court conviction, however.
Not a shining example
As outlined by Bleacher Report, it remains to be seen whether the Bundy minefield will leave Shannon Sharpe’s Hall of Fame chances intact. His accomplishments as a player are unquestioned, and he has come close to being elected in each of his first two years of eligibility. When Tony Gonzalez may have the stat edge among tight ends now, Sharpe should nevertheless receive significant consideration for his on-field accomplishments.
No Sharpe good choices clause
Is it appropriate for the NFL to institute a morals term to apply to Hall of Fame selection? At present, what happens away from the field isn’t really considered. Bleacher Report rightly points out that previous New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1999, and Taylor has had numerous ugly run-ins with the law based on drug, violence and a recent accusation of raping an underage girl. He is not the kind of person you’d hang out with, particularly if you were are underage female, but he absolutely nailed ball carriers and quarterbacks with his bone-rattling tackles.
Shannon Sharpe will get another chance at the Hall of Feb. 5, 2011. Will Shannon Sharpe be a shoo-in for that list, or will the Michele Bundy incident push him toward borderline status?
