WWE News And Rumors For February 9 2011

WWE News And Rumors For February 9, 2011
By The Reporter / WrestleSite.com

- Vince McMahon apparently wasn’t in a good mood at last night’s RAW. According to sources, McMahon was upset about the reaction he got during the opening segment of RAW. He felt the crowd was quiet for his return announcement and that the ‘dead crowd’ continued for most of the night. McMahon was also upset with the R-Truth debacle. The idea was to get Mason Ryan over as a massive heel and R-Truth’s mistake took away from that. The crowd turned on R-Truth which obviously was not what WWE wanted. It should be noted that just about everyone besides Vince got a good laugh out of the mistake and the crowd chants that took place after it.

- Second-generation talent Richie Steamboat is getting rave reviews out of FCW. The only issues seems to be his ‘look’ but there are talks of bringing him up to the main roster within the next few months. We’ll see shortly.

- Greg Gagne’s daughter Gail appeared before a judge in Hennepin Country on charges of having sex with a former football star at a high school she taught at when she was 25 and he was 16. A deal was set that if he declared her guilty, she would not receive jail time. The judge dropped a count of third-degree criminal sexual conduct and a felony was reduced to a gross misdemeanor. She got two years probation and can have no contact with the student.

- As noted before, WrestleMania 28 will be held at the Sun Life Stadium in Miami. WWE officials will announce the full details at a press conference today where local politicians and leaders will be in attendance. Grammy Award winner Emilio Estefan will also be on-hand.

Miami won the bid to host WrestleMania in 2012 over Indianapolis, New York, Toronto, New Orleans and Los Angeles.

Miami tried to get WrestleMania 27 but Atlanta won the bid. WWE officials reportedly chose Miami for 2012 because of its “international ties, facilities, airports and experience hosting hundreds of other mega events.”

- Green Bay Packer Clay Matthews made his first appearance in a WWE ring at last night’s SmackDown tapings in Green Bay, in the main event where Edge defended the World Heavyweight Title against Dolph Ziggler with Vickie Guerrero as the referee.

After Vickie took a bump, Edge speared Dolph but there was no referee to count. Matthews appeared at the top of the ramp with a referee shirt on to a huge pop from the crowd. Matthews rushed down to the ring and counted the pin for Edge, allowing him to retain the World Title. One fan described the reaction Matthews got “ridiculous.”

SmackDown apparently ends this week with Matthews celebrating with a replica World Title belt while Edge celebrates with his real World Title. After the tapings ended, Edge and the Packers celebrated.

- The atmosphere at last night’s WWE SmackDown tapings in Green Bay was said to be more energetic than any recent WWE event in the area. The Packers’ Super Bowl celebration across the street at Lambeau Field with around 80,000 people in attendance ended less than an hour before WWE’s tapings began. After WWE taped NXT and Superstars last night, Clay Matthews and his teammates showed up in the crowd holding replica championship belts to a huge ovation. It’s speculated that WWE did well on replica title belt sales last night as most fans were spotted wearing them. Fans noted that “Let’s Go Pack” chants could be heard throughout the tapings last night, especially when the crowd seemed to lose interest in certain matches. After the tapings ended, Edge and the Packers celebrated in the ring with kids and their replica belts. Edge took the mic and told Green Bay that they “have a ring full of World Champions. Screw the Steelers.” Everyone then left until Dolph Ziggler grabbed the mic and said the Packers suck. Ziggler tried to get a “Packers sucks” chant going but Edge came back in and speared him to end the show.
