Decorating 101: Bathroom Makeovers
Does your bathroom feel so small that you can barely turn around? It is possible to make your room look and feel less cramped. The tips and ideas in this article can get you to turn a small looking bathroom into one that you’ll love.
A change in the lighting, color and a few other things can make your bathroom look larger without actually enlargement. Whether you want your bathroom to look cozy and inviting or elegant, it can all be accomplished with a miniscule amount of changes.
Pale Colors Open Up a Room
This does not mean that you need to paint your bathroom white, but instead that light, pastel colors make space appear larger visually. If you have a dark colored floor you may have to consider making it lighter. Soft shades of peach, cream or any other light colors should be used for the walls. Smaller accents such as towel holders, and artwork for the walls, may have bolder colors. Lighter colors on the top of your vanity, as well as the doors underneath, are preferable. Not much paint is necessary for achieving this with wooden cabinet doors. Towels should have light shades, and compliment the room, if they are used as décor.
Bring More Light In
How can you easily open up and brighten a room visually? Add more light to the area. Recessed lighting in the ceiling, wall sconces and even a small lamp for the vanity can all be considered for additional sources of light. If your budget allows for a skylight it should be considered so that the room can be brightened up by natural light.
If It Takes Up Space, Take It Out!
Do you have extra shelving for holding vanity items such as towels or cotton balls? Objects that protrude into the room often detract from an open and spacious look. Removing shelving and other units of storage should be considered; items stored in them can easily be moved into a linen closet or be put under your vanity. It is amazing how spacious a room looks when you remove clutter.
Expand With Mirrors
How can mirrors expand your room? Well, it has been known for a long time that they reflect light; this will make your room look larger, and this is exactly what you want. The color and design of the bath can easily be reflected by simply replacing the mirror over the vanity with a larger one. Do you need to use a single, large mirror? No, you can just as well use several attractively arranged mirrors in order to add interest and reflect light. Expanding the boundaries of the room can be easily accomplished by placing another mirror on a separate wall, if space allows.
Clutter looks messy and diminishes size in any room. The same holds true for your bathroom. Removing clutter means a more streamlined and cleaner look in the room. You should remove clutter on the vanity by storing away smaller items such as toothpaste, lotions, and deodorant in order to free up space. If you use these tips your bathroom will look as if it has doubled in size!
