Will Jack Morris ever get into the HOF?
I really hope not. he was a very good pitcher, but he wasn’t great. world series and opening day starts should not be considered when a player is up for the hall of fame. other than those two catagories, he was outstanding nowhere, and just above average everywhere else. His career ERA is 3.90. he struck out about as many people as jamie moyer has. his WHIP is high, his ERA plus is only about 105 (100 is average, 105 is 5% above average. ERA plus is ajusted for park factors, time period, and many other factors, so it is a very accurate depiction of how good a major league pitcher was, regardless of whne or where he played)
so, he was a good pitcher. he had a couple of good seasons. but really, he just wasn’t great over the course of his career. Burt Blyleven had an ERA plus of like 130 for his career. so over the course of his entire career, he was about 30% better than the average pitcher in the MLB. Burt isn’t in the hall.
Jack morris has a chance of making it into the HOF, but i don’t think that he should even be on the ballot.
