Jarome Iginla

Is Jarome iginla the benefactor of the “Mike Keenan effect”?
While Jarome Iginla has long been an NHL superstar, his rise to the absolute upper echelon of the genre made me think of this question: has Iginla actually stepped up his game because of Mike Keenan’s presence as Calgary’s coach?
The so-called Mike Keenan effect has happened to many players during the coach’s NHL tour: Rick Tocchet and Ron Hextall (Philadelphia), Jeremy Roenick and Ed Belfour (Chicago), Adam Graves and Brian Leetch (New York), Chris Pronger (St. Louis), Todd Bertuzzi and Markus Naslund (Vancouver), Joe Thornton (Boston), and Olli Jokinen (Florida).
I don’t think so…..but then again, I don’t believe in the Keenan effect.
Roenick, Belfour, Leetch, Pronger, Bertuzzi, and Thornton all had their best seasons when Keenan wasn’t their coach.
Thornton’s points per game average dropped after Keenan replaced Burns.
Brian leetch had his career year the year BEFORE Keenan coached him.
Roenick had his best seasons immediately after Keenan was canned in Chicago (boy was that a great party)
Belfour had his best seasons under Hitchcock
Pronger had 25 points under Keenan and didn’t beciome a superstar for 3 years after Keenan had left.
Bertuzzi had his best years under Crawford, although it was Keenan who showed him he could play with the likes of Markus Naslund.
