Why does he call me “miss (surname) ” instead of just Lilly?

My teacher has a strange habit of calling me “Miss (surname)” instead of Lilly. It’s not a sign of respect – he says it with a smug tone and a sly smile. I have no idea why he does this. He doesn’t do it to anyone else.

I know what you mean, there’s a guy at work that calls me, “Hey, Mac!”. Well, my name isn’t Mac, and soemday he might be part of the wall.
