Did Mickey Mantle ever appear at the North Carolina State Fairgrounds to sign autographs?

No. Micky Mantle was banned from the state of North Carolina for life following a road trip through the state when he was in the minor leagues. The then 18 year old Mantle got rowdy in a road house outside of Charlotte and proceeded to beat up four NC State troopers in a parking lot brawl. In the years following his major league career, he always made a habit of traveling throughout the summer to as many state fairs as he possibly could, where he signed hundreds of thousands of autographs over the years, but he was never able to do this in the state of North Carolina. He even commented near the end of his life “I’ve given out autographs to fans from every state in this union–but never to a tarheel SOB!”
