What are your thoughts on the Maple Leafs thus far?

I know it’s way too early to assess weather or not the Toronto Maple Leafs are going to do anything this year, but with a good start to exhibition things have got me wondering if they are gonna be scratching at the door for 7th or 8th come playoff time. Shoot me down, build me up…whatever, I just want opinions. Hockey’s here and I like to shoot the breeze.

I like what they did to their defense, and without question the team toughness has been improved. The ability to score goals will still be a problem, although I like the deal to nab Phil Kessel. Having someone to put the puck in the net is always a welcome addition. If the young guys like Bozak and Kadri are playing better than some of the vets, you have to go with your hot hand. Give them a shot, and if things don’t work out, then you can go back to the original plan. Goaltending is still a question mark; I know that Toskala was hurt last year, but he has looked shaky at times during the preseason. Jonas Gusstavson is unproven, and Joey MacDonald is a borderline NHL goalie. However, from the makeup of the team, I can see them coming in around 8th in the conference. They are moving in the right direction, but it will take time to see a vast improvement….
