What will the Avs do with their defense?
According to Dater, reliable sources say the Avs won’t offer a contract to Ruslan Salei. And Brett Clark has already signed with a new team. This leaves a nice big hole in the defensive line.
So how do you think they’ll fill these two spots? I’m hoping they don’t try to use Liffiton; he should be in the minors. We’ve got a few excellent prospects in LE, but I don’t think they’re ready for the NHL just yet. So that pretty much leaves the free agency. Who do you think they’ll try to sign? Bear in mind, the only returning regulars that they still need to resign are Stewart, Mueller, and Porter, but I feel that should total no more than $8M. That leaves their payroll at $44M, so at over $14M under the salary cap, they can pretty much afford whoever they want.
@Jimmy, but you have to realize that the reason people were surprised is that the experts were wrong. They’re backtracking now and saying the Avs have a chance to succeed this coming season.
Burke would salivate with the talent they have = potential trade bait for Kaberle. LOL!! I do see them looking into Mitchell, Bieska and Sutton. Have to remember that they are still at a rebuilding stage and making the playoffs while playing so many rookies was a surprise to everyone.
