Dangerous dogs law in UK

In general, dogs are amiable animals that make great pets for individuals and families alike. Because of their friendly and loyal personalities, it is no wonder that dogs have often been referred to as “man’s best friend.”We must remember, however, that dogs are still instinctual animals that have the potential to attack if they feel defensive or territorial. Even family pets that have shown no previous signs of hostility can inexplicably attack another human. Because of this, many states have established laws that determine responsibility for domestic dog attacks.

The Dangerous Dogs Law Act 1991 is a piece of legislation in the United Kingdom they came into being in response to a flurry of press coverage surrounding a number of dog attacks. The act outlawed a number of breeds of dog that where consider to be inherently dangerous. The Dangerous Dog Law Act of 1991, some people say, actually does more harm than good: increasing the number of dangerous dogs law by making certain banned breeds aspirational for those least able to train them properly.

This law also attracted attention from those in the legal profession and the judiciary. The legal profession pointed out that the definitions within the act where either missing, or so hopelessly broad as to make the act all but unenforceable. The judiciary resented the fact that the 1991 act in its original format denied them any leeway when passing sentence and enforcing the law with regard to the destruction of animals. The opposition from the judiciary was so significant that in 1997 the dangerous dogs law act was amended. This amendment for the first time allowed judges a wider interpretation when dealing with those persons and dogs brought before them under the law.
