If the Padres put Greg Maddux on the trading block, would the Braves have any interest in bringing him “home”?
This is most likely Smoltz’s final season, and arguably Glavine’s. There has also been a lot of talk that Bobby Cox and John Scheurholz would resign their positions at the end of this season.
Would the Braves, for no other reason than PR, sign Maddux? He might help the team make a run at the division, and he would certainly put people in the stands. If the previously mentioned people hang it up, it would be nice to see Maddux hang it up with them in a Braves uniform.
As much as I would like to see him back with the Braves, I would much rather see the Braves go after the young aces.
I would like for us to build a staff like we had when it was Smoltz, Glavine, Maddux, Avery, Smith. I remember having a poster on my wall when I was a kid that had a picture of all of them, “The 5 Aces”
Those were the days when our 5 starter could be a 1 or 2 starter on any other team. That’s what I want to see happen again. I think it’s been proven that pitching is what gets you into the post-season year in and year out. As much as I love to see the long ball, I think the Braves need to focus on getting back to having the best starting rotation in baseball.
Unfortunately, Maddux would not fit into that picture.
Oh yeah, and bring back Mazzone, he’s looking for a job!
