Question about Purdue University?

Ok so this might seem like a dumb question but I know the boilermakers colors are like brown and black, but I dont get why a Purdue shirt I have is burgundy colored…? Did they once have Burgundy as a color?

Purdue’s colors have been Old Gold and Black for over a century. Shirts and other items of clothing are not necessarily made in a school’s official colors. Sometimes they are made in other colors that are considered more attractive, more stylish, more unique, etc.
