How does Jim Edmonds rate defensively as a centerfielder …?

in comparison to the all time greats, like Willie Mays, Joe DiMaggio, and Richie Ashburn? The reason I ask is that in comments following an article on his retirement, there were plenty of posters who believed that JE belonged in that group.
Since Edmonds didn’t win his eight gold gloves by accident I think its fair to say that he rates highly as a defensive center fielder; does he rank up near the top?

Edmonds did not have great speed like some other great CF like Mays,Speaker,Junior
and Andruw Jones but defensively he made up for lack of speed with positioning and
hustle.Another CF in that vein was Andy Van Slyke.Mays in the NL and Tris Speaker
in the AL are regarded as the best defensive CF of all time.Edmonds ranks in the second
tier along with:
Garry Maddox
Paul Blair
Junior
Garry Pettis
Devon White
Mickey Mantle
oh, I almost forgot Joe Dimaggio who was probably Mays and Speakers equal.
