2010 Baseball Hall of Fame Contender List Boasts Class

The 2010 Baseball Hall of Fame inductees will be announced shortly and the register of likely players that might get themselves on that list is full of classy baseball players.  Nevertheless, the panel of judges is still out on whether or not any of that quality is Hall of Fame valuable.

Roberto Alomar seems to be receiving the most press concerning who is notable on the list of 25 qualified players.  He is one of thirteen first time ballot players being measured.  One of his strengths is the fact that he has great offensive statistics when compared to other mid infielders of his era, but there is no obvious analysis whether or not those offensive numbers are good enough to get him in Cooperstown.

This year’s list is filled of some of the best gloves of the past decade, which isn’t weighed nearly as heavily as the statistics at the plate.

A few of those celebrated gloves include Alan Trammell, Don Mattingly, Edgar Martinez, Barry Larkin, Andres Galarraga, Roberto Alomar, RObin Ventura, Todd Zeile, and Ray Lankford.

There are also a handful of staff aces who will try to get in the Hall since they played for terrible teams or in tiny cities.  In the middle of those aces are Pat Hetgen, Kevin Appier, and Jack Morris.

Fan favorites also sprinkle the list, but that isn’t enough to earn the approval of the baseball writers. Don Mattingly is possibly the favorite player on the list, but his lack of quality records through his 13 years hurts his chances.  Whilst he had a noble run from 1985 to 1990, clear of that, his records dwindled due to back problems.

At any degree, the list of inductees will be exciting.  Don’t assume a long list of men this year as the excellence across the board is not elevated enough to get a lot of of the players on this list over the bulge.

Possibly this is at last Bert Blyleven’s year.
