Rafael Nadal The Wimbledon Champion
Rafael Nadal at the age of 24 has now won his 8th Grand slam championships. After he suffered the knee injury last year a lot of people were doubting his ability in winning any grand slam but now he has proved them wrong by winning two grand slams in a row in 4 weeks. The guy is just amazing. Millions of promotional merchandise were made after this win and if you visit Spain, either it’s Nadal on their t-shirt or the national football team. It looks like it’s going to be a Spanish year but don’t count the Germans out.
This year Wimbledon started very competitively in SW14. In the first week of Wimbledon there were some great matches played. Unseeded players playing for proud and giving a lot of top seeds massive problems. Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal both had tough 5 set matches in the first week. We also had a marathon of a match between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut. Mahut and Isner played the longest match and the longest set in the history of Wimbledon. Isner eventually beat Mahut 70-68 in the fifth set.
The weather also didn’t let the tournament down. There was no rain in Wimbledon this year since 1995, which was surprising. No rain in London? Shocking isn’t it? The tournament finished in two weeks and saw a new champion in the form of Rafael Nadal who beat Czech Thomas Berdych in straight sets in the final.
That is why all the Spanish fans these days are wearing promotional clothing of Rafael Nadal’s wimbledon crown and wishing him all the best for US Open. I have also bought few promotional pens, which clearly says Rafa is the best well not literally. I know few people who would love me to bits, if I give these away as a gift to them.
Some people have already started saying this was the best Wimbledon ever, but what do you think?
