If an Expired marriage license is already signed in the state of Arizona, does that make that couple divorced?

A couple got married and the marriage licensed was signed, they seperated months later. They split and one went to a totally different state. The Marriage License expired. (Note: marriage license is valid up to one year in the state of Arizona). By the Marriage license already being signed, does that mean its still valid up to one year or is it expired if its signed? And does that make that couple divorced automatically, and do they still have to have papers signed for an official or legal divorce?

So all of this happened over a very short period of time. Those two are never married.

A marriage license must be signed off and returned to the county clerk’s office and properly filed before the deadline passes. If that does not happen then the couple was never legally married. But there are exceptions. The exceptions involve the couple living as if they were married for several years.
