When is a good time to look at apartments in Brooklyn?

Do people usually find and sign leases to rent apartments so many months in advance or do they typically find them a month before the move in date?

well i moved in the bronx and i saw an available apartment 20 days before i wanted to move in but the landord said that he wanted someone immediately because if their is no tenant he is losing money.. well i said yes and paid my deposit and my rent ……. that made me have 2 apartments at the same time but if i didnt i probably wouldnt have found something for the next month………………

ass soon as u have the deposit and months rent and fee if they require it……. if its a serious place then they looking to renting it as soon as possible
