Check was signed and amount was written in numerals, but not in words?

I received a check with all information input minus the amount in words. I wrote it out myself and deposited the check. Is there any rule that says only the check writer can enter the check amount in words?

I’d ask someone at your local bank to be sure, but I have had something similar happen to me. What I did was write in the missing information and then initial next to the “edit” to signify that it was me who did it. When I deposited the check, I did it in person to make sure there would not be any problems – even though the teller did ask me about it. Their supervisor came over to check on the situation and said that what I had done was “fine”, and they allowed the transaction.

Still, I’d check with your bank – in person, or by phone – first.
