Twitter Update #touchedbyTSA Right After Body Search For Totally Free IPod Touch
Thanksgiving air vacationers can earn an iPod Touch in the “#touchedbyTSA” promotion financed by the social-mapping app Loopt . To win, people flying on Nov. 23rd who are searched by Transportation Security Administration employees must share their experience on Twitter using the hashtag #touchedbyTSA. When #touchedbyTSA mocks airport screening process, the TSA shows no signs of changing things and insists that it’s keeping people safe.
Full body scan, or #touchedbyTSA?
The Loopt #touchedbyTSA promotion takes advantage of the national uproar over full body scanners that project an image of a person’s virtually naked body on a screen. A person can submit to a manual body search or leave the airport if they don’t want to go via the scanners. On Nov. 23, the busiest day at airports throughout the Thanksgiving holiday, perhaps numerous air travelers who would have normally acquiesced to a full body scan will opt for the manual body search, simply for the opportunity to win a free iPod Touch via #touchedbyTSA.
What difficulties #touchedbyTSA will cause
It appears that #touchedbyTSA couldn’t possibly be something the TSA is happy with. Full body scanners provide the best method yet for detecting hidden weapons or devices under clothing. Yet because all a person has to do is stand in them for a few seconds, they accelerate the screening process and make passenger flow via airports more efficient. November 23 is going to be an very busy and difficult day for TSA to get through considering security is going to be backed up a lot. The National Opt-Out of Airport Scanners Day and #touchedbyTSA promotion will be the cause of this. The grass roots group ‘We Won’t Fly’ has began the protest for National Opt-Out of Airport Scanners Day in order to protest the full body scanners getting used.
TSA not touched by protests
It seems like the TSA is getting a lot of crap from people lately about everything. That isn’t going to stop TSA head John Pistole. Earlier this week he told a Senate hearing that in the efforts to stay ahead of the airline terrorism threat, the TSA is seeking a proper mix between passengers’ rights and safeguarding them. He said his priority was that every passenger is secure on every flight. He wants the TSA goals to be accomplished with the help of air travelers willing to “work together” instead of fighting it.
