i want to trade in my malibu maxx but still owe?
i want to trade in my malibu maxx for a truck but still owe 9,464.00 and the blue book is 8200.00….how does that work…will i just go upside down the 1264.00 or what??????
trade in value is 8,200.00
private party is 9,800.00
retail is 10,900.00
You’re already upside down. When you owe more than the vehicle is worth, that’s what it’s called.
So what will happen is the dealer will “magic” some figures that effectively hides the $1,264.00 and roll it into the new vehicle loan and you’ll then be paying it off at the new interest rate and term.
Purchasing another vehicle when “upside down” on your current loan is not necessarily a bad thing. If the vehicle you are getting is heavily discounted, both with customer rebate and dealer incentives, the total upside down could actually decrease, especially if the new vehicle historically has a better resale track record. And if you bargain properly on both the ACTUAL price you are paying for the new vehicle and the REAL CASH VALUE of your trade in, you could be OK. Just be sure that you have checked the numbers before signing the papers.
